40 Book Challenge

Of Mice and Men
by John Steinbeck
Prompt: - Describe the main characters.
              - How does the authors writing affect the book?

George Milton, “...small and quick, dark of face, with restless eyes and sharp, strong features… small, strong hands, slender arms, a thin and bony nose.” Small guy, big leadership role, he is like the father of Lennie. He is the tough love guy, he would swear and curse at Lennie even though he loved him like a brother. He even said that at the end of Chapter One.

Lennie Small, “... a huge man, shapeless of face, with large pale eyes, with wide, sloping shoulders…” Big guy, sidekick. He is the other guy that messes up everything. He gets in trouble and can't remember anything. He often loves George's stories when he explains it to him. He feels sorry that he ruins everything for George. And he squeezes mice heads till they die.

The author's writing has a southern feel to it. It uses slang instead of full real words. It adds a different and cool affect to the characters' dialogue, it makes it sound cooler. It matches the characters with their personality, like the swear words. Honestly I think that is a good touch, it shows that George is more of a tough guy that can get angry easily.

I commented on Sebastian, Devin, and Siari's Blog.

  1. I like how you just randomly blurted out "And he squeezes mice heads till they die." I agree with you, George wouldn't really say out forward that he cares about Lennie. Great blog! I didn't see any gramatical errors or spelling errors. I also agree that the swearing kind of fits in with George's character.

  2. Like Mia said, I can obviously tell that George watches out for Lennie and cares about what happens to him, but like many close siblings or friends, they don't wanna come right out and say it. This was a good blog by the way, and I really liked how you described the characters. I also liked how you added your own opinion as to how the author's dialogue affects the story.

  3. I enjoyed your blog this week, I can agree with you that George is feels that Lennie is like a brother to him and cares for him more than he is letting us see. I felt that is was good that you put your own opinion about his writing in the paragraph where you talk about the authors writing style.

  4. Great Blog! I liked when you said "He is the tough love guy," because I agree with you when you say that. I also liked the last paragraph because you put your opinion in it. I also think the last sentence in the second paragraph was a little harsh but kind of funny.
